Add VAT and the rates come to £24 and £18 a week. One rate covers one sealed container for one week, loaded by our crew at your address and stored at our own yard under 24 hour security and CCTV. There is a quirk worth knowing before you book a shorter stay to be safe: the tier covers the whole stay, so a container that stays eight weeks costs £120 + VAT in total while the same container for seven weeks costs £140 + VAT. Crossing the eight week line costs less than stopping a week earlier.

The exact total comes from the survey rather than a guess over the phone. Two Hampstead homes with the same number of bedrooms can fill a different number of containers, and a fifth-floor mansion block with no lift takes longer to load than a house with a front drive. The survey captures the container count and the access before you commit, which is why the quote we agree is the price you pay. What moves the total up or down:

Payment is straightforward. A 10% deposit at booking secures your collection date, and the balance is due after the job is complete. We take payment by bank transfer, card or cash, and the survey and the quote cost you nothing.

Parking and access on collection day

Most of Hampstead sits inside Camden’s controlled parking zone, and the operating hours differ from zone to zone, sometimes street by street. On a zoned street a collection lorry cannot legally wait in a resident bay, so where the kerb is controlled the practical answer is a parking suspension: the council reserves the bays outside your home for the day. Reserve two bays, not one. A 7.5 tonne lorry takes up about a bay and a half on its own, and it needs room to work.

Camden charges for suspensions by the space, by the day. A single bay for a single day currently costs £79.63, and the daily rate rises in tiers the longer the suspension runs, so two bays for a day is the number to put in the budget. One break in your favour if the storage rides alongside a move: Camden waives the first day’s space charge for house moves, up to three consecutive spaces, and drops the short-notice charge too. The administration charge still applies, so a move-day suspension costs a fraction of the headline rates. To avoid the council’s short-notice charge you want the application in more than seventeen days ahead. The absolute minimum is three days before the suspension starts. Applying is technically the resident’s job, but you do not have to handle it alone: we tell you at survey whether your street needs one, and if you would rather not deal with it at all, we help arrange the suspension with Camden Council (council fee applies).

The Finchley Road is a TfL red route, where stopping is restricted at the best of times, so for addresses on or off the main roads the plan is usually a side-road bay nearby rather than a suspension outside the door.

The building matters as much as the kerb, and on this patch it usually matters more. The mansion blocks around the village, Belsize Park and Swiss Cottage often want moves booked with the management, restrict which entrance goods can pass through and set their own hours for communal areas, so we check those rules before the day and work to them. The Georgian terraces in the conservation streets have narrow front doors and turning stairs, and we protect the floors and doorframes on the way out as standard. Add the hill itself, the morning squeeze on the Finchley Road and the narrow turn off Flask Walk, and a sensible start time matters more here than almost anywhere else in North London.
