Shoreditch moves differently to the rest of the city. A four-bed townhouse off Rivington Street with no lift, modern furniture that needs taking apart and a suspended bay at each end is a different shape of job altogether: bigger crew, larger lorry, two bays a side and the full day. Your own quote will sit somewhere on that spectrum, and the survey is what places it.

Parking and access in Shoreditch

Shoreditch sits inside Hackney’s controlled parking, and the operating hours differ from zone to zone, sometimes street by street. In a zoned street a removal lorry cannot legally wait in a resident bay, so the practical answer is a bay suspension: the council reserves the bays outside your building for the day. Reserve two bays, not one. A 7.5 tonne lorry takes up about a bay and a half on its own, and it needs room to work.

Hackney charges for suspensions per bay, per day, plus an administration fee, and applications that go in late carry an extra charge. The council wants at least seven working days’ notice, and where a full suspension is more than the job needs, Hackney also runs dispensation waivers that let a van stop for a limited time without reserving a specific space. Applying is technically the resident’s job, because the council needs your details and payment. But you do not have to handle it alone. A few of the main roads are TfL red routes, where stopping is restricted at the best of times, so around Shoreditch High Street the plan is usually a side-road bay or a goods vehicle bay nearby rather than a suspension outside the door.

The building itself matters as much as the kerb, and in Shoreditch it usually matters more. Most managed buildings here want notice: concierges require move bookings, service lifts get reserved in slots, and some blocks only allow moves at weekends or outside office hours. We flag all of it at survey so the booking is in your name and the slot is on the plan before move day.
